Sagip Pilipinas Provides Relief for Typhoon Odette Survivors

More than 140 families received relief packs from UPAAT's first Sagip Pilipinas fundraising campaign for Typhoon Odette survivors. UPAAT partnered with the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Student Council headed by President Chelcie Pahila who ensured the packing and delivery of relief in Sitio Pantad, Barangay Tobias Fornier in the province of Antique. Beneficiaries included forty-one (41) families belonging to the ATI Indigenous Peoples community. UPV students residing in Antique coordinated with Barangay Tobias Fornier officials to provide relief as the barangay was not reached by operations at the height of typhoon.

One of a kind BINGO and Zumba Fundraisers

"Nakatulong ka na sa kababayan nating mga nasalanta ng Typhoon Odette, nag-enjoy ka pa!," was the line of the BINGO and Zumba fundraisers headed by Fundraising Committee Chair Anna Florence Ponce de Leon and Council Member/Zumba guro Marie Masongsong.

The Zumba sessions ran every Friday for the whole month of January where participants "lost bad calories, but gained the hearts of beneficiaries." The BINGO games, on the other hand, created a community of friends who met every Sunday from January to February which culminated in the Jackpot game. Players who consistently played for 4 consecutive games qualified for big prizes including a $100 gift card. A total of $2,337 was raised from the events.

Our Gratitude to Donors and Participants

The second phase of relief will be arranged with another community in need of assistance. UPAAT wishes to thank the donors and participants who made this fundraiser possible. Maraming Salamat!
